I stayed in a traditional bed and breakfast, meaning an extra room in someone's home. I did it through airbnb.com where you can see other travelers' reviews. Less expensive and much, much nicer than the motels I've stayed in. Staying in another airbnb tonight in Moab.
Where did you stay in Taos? If I'd thought to ask you about your itinerary I'd have recommended the La Fonda on the south side of the plaza.
